Circumstances
PFC Carson, Virgil B. went missing in the vicinity of Mook/Middelaar in The Netherlands.
Private First Class Virgil B. Carson entered the U.S. Army from Wyoming and served with 2nd Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR), 82nd Airborne Division, Company F during Operation Market Garden.
On October 2, 1944, PFC Carson was observing the enemy from inside his foxhole in the vicinity of Mook, Holland, when he was killed by enemy sniper fire. The enemy took control of the area following this action, preventing the recovery of PFC Carson’s body. An extensive search was performed following the close of hostilities but did not locate PFC Carson’s remains.
